Long time no hear. I hope everyone had a lovely holiday. I decided to take a break after Blogmas. My holiday was lovely and a little extra quiet this year. Nothing special happened other than relaxing. The Mr had some extra time off to use up so we mainly spent it at home.
On my last day at the shop before the holiday and one week break, my uncle and local wood carver Ed Supik gave me and Brian this lovely hand carved Santa Clause. He has made several over the years and I had always wanted one so earlier this year I asked if it was possible to commission one from him. He actually had one that he carved in 2017 that he said he could give me. He is just lovely and we are so happy to have him in our home. I’m not sure I have the heart to pack him away with the holidays items. My parents have one and they keep him out all year long. I’m tempted to do the same.
The photo above is just a small portion of ornaments he has carved over the years. Each year Ed would pick a theme and carve an ornament for each family and friends households. My Aunt Linda would help paint them. I have a small collection of them that I got from my Aunt Madeline after she had passed. We love having them decorate our tree every year. These are just a few of our favorite.
Before you ask, we do still have our tree up as of this post. It’s been holding up so well. It’s barely lost any needles so we are keeping it up for another week.
I thought I would show of all of the gifts I managed to finish. Most of these I had talked about in past Blogmas posts. One that I did not mention was the Katamari Prince Amigurumi on the upper left and the woven book markers on the lower right.
The Katamari Prince was something I started crocheting way back in the early 2000’s when I started vending at anime conventions’ artist alleys. Last year I was feeling nostalgic and decided to make a small batch to put up in the shop. While making them I found out in random passing that friend and co worker was a fan of the game as well. I had put them aside when preparing for the fiber festival this past fall but pulled one out for her. I will be putting them in the shop in the next month or so. I have a couple of special things that I want to make to go with them.
Book markers have been an obsession of mine. They are such a lovely weave and you can do so much with them. There are two big readers in my life that I thought would appreciate them so I made them a custom pair. Most of the ones I had seen online are a bit chunky. I thought for sure those would distort a book if kept in it long enough. I have a small stash of hand spun that I have been holding on to for a special project and I thought this was perfect. Since giving them out I have been told that they are in currently in use so I asked if they could report back how they hold up. I want to make more. They really are just so fun and relaxing to make.
So this was a ramble of a post. I did not realize in such a short time how much I had to say. I have a few current projects in the works. A wip that I started this year that is almost finished as well as a few that I dusted off from years past. I’m following the lead of several crafters I know and I’m going through my old wips and deciding “do I finish or do I frog”. I’ll plenty to talk about soon.
