Yosd-sized Feb Sweater #2

My second attempt and third prize winner at the MD Sheep and Wool Festival this year. Why I decided to make another was the fact that the first one was made entirely out of alpaca so not an ounce of wool was used. Since the festival is based around all things sheep, the pieces for the category I placed my items in needed to be at least 50% wool. I cast on tuesday night before the festival, bound off on thursday and wove in on friday morning. The first one took me an entire week to knit up yet this one took a few days. So here are the details:

-Pattern: Elizabeth Zimmermann’s Baby Sweater on Two Needles (February) from Knitters Almanac
-Yarn: unknown Merino wool purchased at stitches several year ago
-Needles: 000us
-Modifications: Again, stitch count was not changed though the sleeves were shortened and knitted in the round (suppose to be knitted flat). The only critique that was give was the fact that the button off set the scale. I knew it wasn’t the right button to use at the time but lack of time told me other wise. I’m so obsessive about this so I should know better. Positive things was that the yarn choice and needle size were perfect and that my blocking was well done (woot! for blocking). Other than the button I’m really happy with this one. Despite being a baby sweater I actually really like this pattern. This pattern would be the project of choice if any of my friends decide to have little ones anytime soon.
-Things I learned: first, read rules carefully before deciding on a piece to put in (I found out at the last minute that my first sweater just wouldn’t do). Next, when working with crazy thin needles used for micro knitting, protect your fingers. Because I had my needle resting under a joint(and over a nerve) on my right ring finger I lost feeling in it for several days (no seriously). It’s fine now but it did have me worried. I’ve been wearing a finger wrap of sorts when I was knitting all this week. It has helped so much. Lastly, keep scale in mind at all time… that button choice bugged me then and it bugs me now… that is what I get for rushing.

Anyway, I’m glad it’s the weekend. This week kicked my bootie. Tomorrow I’m getting my hair cut (way over due) and sunday the Mr and I were invited to partake in Matsuri’s 15th anniversary party(I look forward to their yearly parties… always good time and good food). The rest of the weekend will be spent gardening, knitting and plain chilling out. I’m getting a bit of congestion in my chest. I’m hoping it’s just allergies and not a chest cold forming… we’ll see how it goes in the morning.

I’m so amazed that I found you here! When we went into the competition building at the festival, I got all excited to see something with a tag that specified it was for BJD. I’d been wondering about the pattern, to see if I could make one for my little guy, so I guess I’ll see if I can find the one you listed.

Also… do you know anything about the doll dress that was on the table next to your sweater?

    Thanks!

Hello Sara. The pattern is from Elizabeth Zimmermann’s Knitters Almanac but scaled down quite a bit. With the right yarn, needle size and gauge very little changes need to be made. I was excited myself to see a few pieces at last year’s show that were made specifically for bjds so knowing that I was going again this year, I made sure to have a few pieces knitted and entered.

As for the dress, if it’s the same one I’m thinking about (red was it?), I believe it was made by a lovely local knitter who goes by the name Marseille on Ravelry. It was a gorgeous dress.
